15 facts about your toilet!
September 03, 2014
As Americans, we tend to take flushing toilets for granted, and why would we not? Only about 0.5 percent of U.S. homes now lack indoor plumbing, while many newer homes have three or more bathrooms. Flushing a toilet is a modern convenience, while around the world to whom our Kohlers, Delta and Totos would be an luxury.

Here are 15 amazing wonders regarding this most commonly used plumbing item in the states:
1. All sorts of resources online and otherwise give credit to ancient Crete's King Minos (18th century B.C.) as having the world's first flush toilet. In fact ,Britain's oldest known Neolithic village, the people of Skara Brae, over 1,200 years before Minos had their own primitive flushing system.
2. The fill valve and flushing mechanism used in virtually all modern toilets was created for a hand-washing device by the Arabian inventor known as al-Jazari (or Kurdish)in 1206 A.D. Depending on your ball cock, or fill float assembly, general idea is still the same.
3. Until the 18th century, European city dwellers used "chamber pots" to catch bodily wastes, then casually threw the contents into the public streets where they mixed with horse droppings. If you think today's cities smell bad, imagine London, Paris or Prague circa 1600.
4. The first public toilets appeared at London's Crystal Palace in 1851. They were also the first-known "pay toilets," as patrons were charged a penny for their use.
5. Contrary to the urban legend, London's Thomas Crapper (1836-1910) did not invent the modern toilet. Thomas Crapper did own a very successful plumbing company and was awarded numerous patents for his improvements to the plumbing system. English solders leaving for the trenches of WWI often passed through London where they saw signs for Crapper's company and adopted his name as a slang term for the device.
6. Slang terms or other names used for the toilet include head, commode, john, lavatory, can, porcelain throne, crapper, oval office, loo, .
7. In fact, the word "toilet" itself is a euphemism. It comes from the French toilette, meaning the act of cleaning or grooming one's self.
8. It wasn't until the late 19th century when the germ theory of disease finally took hold that urban planners rushed to install sewer and clean water systems in their communities.
9. The modern closed tank and bowl didn't start to replace the older elevated tank design until around 1910.
10. 1950 roughly 25 percent of American households, mostly rural, still lacked indoor toilets. That number topped 50 percent.
11. United Nations report still some 2.6 billion people around the world still lack indoor toilet facilities.
12. Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho (1960) was the first Hollywood film to show a toilet flushing. (Really?!) On TV, the first toilet appeared on the ABC sit-com Leave It to Beaver (1957-1963) (You would think this took quite sometime).
13. American toilets flush in the key of E Flat, some not all.
14. Toilet paper didn't appear until 1857. People cleaned themselves with what ever they could find.
15. Estimations have come that people spend 8 times per dy they go to the toilet, that is 3 years of your life in overall time!
16. The aqua duct which brought fresh drinking water and help provide the early community toilets were developed over 2000 years ago by the Romans, and also a very basic sewage system to remove the waste from their public restroom areas.

Old Piping got you down?
Most homes in the in the Northwest, Seattle-Tacoma region are 20+ years old and may be in need of a whole home plumbing water, waste, and gas re-pipe to keep your home in the best form it can be in for years to come. Acqua Plumbing prides ourselves on being being affordable and we offer payment plans, or we can perform your work in phases to make sure we can meet your budget, and restart anytime your ready.
Leaks- Waste & Water

Old piping may contain many leaks waste and water alike in your home. Your pipes maybe full of old gunky build-up and corrosive materials. These build-ups will cause water to leak through any means necessary for it to escape or continue to build until you home has water where it should not be! Clogs not only can cause water to flood or be a drag when trying to flush but the water sitting in your old metal pipes will cause it to erode away causing leaks as well. Galvanized piping contain short bends in the waste system making it harder for materials to pass through to the sewer main line. These clogs and leaks may cause raw sewage to enter into your home.
These are problem areas and are even harder for snakes and such machine to pass the bend to clear the blockage. Re-piping these leaking, problem causing pipings can be cost effective if done with the proper contractor and worth while when selling or adding value to your home.
Different Water color & an odor
Pour yourself some water in a clear glass and check out the color or contaminates. If you get anything other than clear, like a rusty murky color and foul odor do not drink it. It may not be safe until boiled and even then a potential health hazard. You most likely in need of a water re-pipe to remove all the contaminates out of your potable water. Old rusted out pipes full of gunky build-up can add a strange color, foul odors, bad taste and health concerns and should rarely be used for drinking purposes. Please contact your local smart plumbers here at Acqua Plumbing to help keep your families health, and your home in tip top shape!

Hose bibs are they a concern?
June 05, 2014
Hose bibs are they a concern when Cold weather is around?
Living in the Northwest we deal with some crazy weather every now and again, and we may not ever know if it will be a hot summer day or raining cold drizzling weather the next. Here at Acqua Plumbing we have seen many hose bibs or for other terms hose spigot. Hoses being connected still may contain water, or you may even leave your hose on or have it leaking and not know it! Acqua Plumbing is here for helpful tips and here to explain why this occurs. You can save thousands over you and your homes lifetime by simply turning off & disconnecting your hose and properly protecting it, checking for leaks, and even installing the right type of hose bib.

Checking if you first have a frost free type hose bib as shown in the photo with a vacuum breaker. A vacuum breaker is a must to help prevent cross contamination. If you do disconnecting the hose as so the hose bib can properly drain the excess water from where the water sits in the hose bib itself. This release of the excess water helps prevent the device from freezing on the colder days.
If you don't have a frost free hose bib or do not disconnect the hose to let the water drain your at risk of paying thousands of dollars in repairs and potential water damage to your home. In the photos you can see how the hose bibs are designed to look, and when the water freezes it split the item inside the copper pipe portion, by expansion of the water.
(Broken Hose bib as shown here)
When the warmer months or days come you may not even notice the burst pipe at first. The leaks may be relatively small sometimes, and usually are in the walls or walls & crawl space of your home. You may not even notice the difference in water pressure, the leak will persist damaging your walls inner and outer, floors all sorts of items, & quite possibly giving a great environment for different types of mold to grow causing further damages to your health and home.
Acqua Plumbing has dealt with many hose bib replacements and water leaks caused by freezing pipes splitting the copper piping on the hose bib. The average cost of these repairs are anywhere from $250 and up, and that's just the repair. You still have to pay for replacing the damaged walls, floors, and other items. This money can be saved by installing a frost free hose bib and simply checking that your hose is disconnected in the cold weather.

Water leaks and you
May 23, 2014
Have you all of a sudden seen a high water bill or puddling water in your yard in Tacoma, Federal way or Auburn ? Then your local Plumbing Professionals at Acqua Plumbing is your answer. If you have noticed or these items then you more likely have an underground water leak somewhere on your main water line. Here at Acqua Plumbing we are always giving tips and tricks, we even have a informative video here for you to watch brought to you by youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXp-jOir_7U
(Photo shown below is water damage from a leak in the home)
First step in identifying that your leak is outside your home is to shut off your plumbing fixtures in your home. After this is accomplished locate your water meter, the city usually places it on one of the corners of your property. Once you have located the meter you will see a little triangle or arrow looking object, if this is spinning you definitely have a leak. Now go back to your home and locate your water main shut off for your home. Having a water shut off is code for your home but most older homes do not have one making locating a leak a bit more difficult. If yes you do have a main home shut off , then turn the valve off and once again find your water meter. If the meter is then still spinning you have just located the source of the leak somewhere underground on your main water line. If you have an underground leak on the main water line then there are several items that you need to consider, the type of soil you have, if there is a pool or puddling on your yard or lawn, and if your water pipes are underneath concrete or grass lawn? If you have a nice little lake of water in your yard or really soggy/wet lawn or grass then you most likely have found the source of the water leak, as the water will escape the damaged pipe area. After these steps have now been accomplished you have saved a lot of time and money in water leak detection and now are ready for the plumbing professionals at Acqua Plumbing to come assist you in the repair of the water leak.
IF you do not have a home shut off then the only solution to find it after all your fixtures have been shut off at the valves on each in your home then a leak search from the expert plumbers here at Acqua Plumbing. You have determined it is not a leaking toilet or sink with the fixtures being shut off at this point, or if you have looked at your meter and it is still spinning a leaking fixture could now be added to the list of potential leak sources.
If the meter stopped running when you turned off the water main then the leak is somewhere in or under the home, most likely; the toilet is running or there is a broken pipe or fitting. Listening for a leak is known as acoustic detection, which we have several methods for using an old doctor stethoscope type device or electronic equipment, and that simply means walking along your walls or outside to see if you can hear a pressurized hissing. Once the leak has been located it will need to either be replaced or removed and new fittings/piping be installed, depending on the damage. To do this correctly, consider calling the smarts plumbers here at Acqua to avoid any incorrections in installation. Another great tip from Acqua is you can dye test your toilets by putting food coloring in your toilet’s tank and wait a ½ hour or so to an hour. If, when you return you notice that the dye is in the toilet bowl then you have an issue with a running toilet. This is primarily due to either a bad flush valve, aging flapper or possibly a malfunctioning fill valve.
Checking each fixture after the toilet, as you may have a leaking shower valve, faulty cartridge in one of your fixture valves, or brown spots on your ceiling, and damp sheetrock on your walls.
Either way if you have or do not have a shut off valve, interior leak, underground leak, the problem needs to be addressed by professionals here at Acqua Plumbing to help insure you investment (Your home) and your money is well spent and taken care of the correct way, as so no future problems arise. Your Neighborhood Plumbing Professional at Acqua Plumbing is here to help you with any problems or possible leak issues here in the Tacoma, Federal Way, Renton, the King County or pierce county areas.

How to Clear your gutters
May 20, 2014
How to clear your downspouts
Gutters and downspouts play an essential role in protecting the exterior of a house by allowing water to drain from the roof onto the ground. When they become clogged with leaves, twigs, branches and other dirt and debris, water doesn't drain properly and this will eventually cause water damage if the problem is not taken care of. Gutters and downspouts need to be cleaned once or twice a year and more if the house is surrounded by trees. If you notice that water is not draining from the downspout when it rains, this indicates that the gutters are full of debris or the downspout is clogged.
Have a question, Ask Acqua Plumbing today!! 253-353-4602

Clearing
The gutters around your home's roof can help to prevent flooding and other water damage during intense weather. Many homeowners are used to clearing these gutters of leaves and other detritus that collects over time, but may forget about the downspout drains. These are the pipes that run vertically down the side of your house and carry water away from the foundation. Sometimes these drains lead to larger transport pipes (like sewage pipes), while some downspouts merely spill out into your yard. Either way, the water will not drain properly if the downspouts are not clear.

How to repair a toilet
February 03, 2014
Plumbing Auburn, Wa
How to repair your toilet
Understanding your toilet and its components
How to repair your
Toilet
Where do you spend most of your time
when your home. Some might say your kitchen, bedroom, or
living room, but what about your bathroom? Let's go a step
further. What is the most used fixture in your bathroom? A
vast majority would say your toilet. Although toilets are
sturdy and reliable components of the plumbing system, it’s
not hard to say in no matter what kind of building you live
in your toilet has or will give you issues every now and
again. Toilet clogs or drain clogs are the most common, but
it is not the only plumbing issue you may have regarding
your toilet. Let's take the toilet's tank for example, can
make all sorts of strange noises, or water can run
continuously. The better side of these plumbing issues is
that with great tips for your local smart plumbers here at
Acqua for the DIYers these items can be solved affordably.
Remember, for all the DIYers out there feel free to try
these repairs yourself first. Just know if you come to a
point where you are uncomfortable and cannot finish the
repair Acqua is here to help, we are only a call or email
away! In this article, we're going to explain various issues
related to repairing toilets.
Replacing the Toilet Seat
The simplest repair on the toilet is the seat & lid.
There are many different styles, colors, and even heated
toilet seats, you should have no trouble finding the one
that fits you and your toilet best. Most modern toilets are
manufactured in two standard sizes, and replacement seats
are made to fit them.
Once you have the right size seat, remove the old one.
Removal is easy just undo the nuts that are underneath the
toilet seat. A common problem is that the nuts securing the
toilet seat may be rusted or corroded or in some cases too
tight and will not budge. The nuts on some toilet seats are
recessed and practically inaccessible, making the job even
more difficult.
Answer to the problem? If you can get to the fasteners
relatively easily, apply some WD-40, oil, or soap to help
loosen them. Give the solution a bit of time to soak into
the nuts. Use a wrench, or, if you can’t reach the nuts with
a regular wrench, a deep socket wrench, or in some cases
there is a place to apply a screw driver to loosen the bolt
from one side. Don't apply too much force as the tool you
maybe using can slip and strike the tank or bowl and damage
the toilet.
If either way they do not budge then you may simply have
to take a hacksaw to the nuts and bolts. To protect the
bowl’s finish, add some protective layer of some sort,
possibly tape to the bowl. Then insert the blade under the
hinge, and saw through the bolts.Be aware, just as with the
other tool you maybe using not to damage the bowl or tank.
With the nuts removed or the bolts cut, you can remove
the old seat without no issues. Now clean the area if you
have not already, and simply add the seat to where the old
one was removed. Be sure not to tighten the bolts and nuts
too tight as you may need to remove it later and you do not
want the previous problem to occur.

Clearing a Clogged Toilet
Here again the DIYers if you have $99 call Acqua Plumbing
to clear your clogged drain or toilet. If not you can
generally clear a clogged toilet with a plunger, or toilet
auger, these items are a plumbers' best friend. Apply the
plunger first into the mouth of the drain portion of the
toilet, being aware that there should be a ood amount of
water in the toilet. Do not flush the toilet, otherwise you
may overflow. If there is not enough water, it is ideal to
grab a pot or large bowl and add water from another fixture
in the home. There is many different plungers out there and
any of them should work just fine for the application.
If seems your toilet is clogged it is one of two things,
either the clog is not far away in the toilet itself or a
main line clog. You can identify if it's a main line clog by
checking your bathtub, if there is dirty water, or toilet
like brown water then you have a main line clog and a
plunger or auger will not work for this application. If the
plunger’s action doesn’t seem to work you can try a toilet
auger to try and either push the clog out or grab it with
the augers wire like body.
The auger has a long sleeve or tube to guide the snake
and auger hook into the trap. It has a crank handle and
comes in two sizes usually and is the best for toilet clogs,
other than a plunger, and are relatively inexpensive.
The steps to use a toilet auger.
Step 1: Insert the toilet auger into the mouth of the
toilet and crank the handle down until it feels tight or
will not go further.
Step 2: Try moving the auger up and down by the crank
handle. This should dislodge the clog, if it is indeed in
the toilet.
Step 3: If all else fails, the clog maybe on the bottom
of the toilet, which requires removal of the toilet
completely and is a bit outside of the average DIYers. Call
Acqua Plumbing if you need further assistants.
Toilet Tank Problems
When you hear strange noises coming from your toilet,
they are costing you money and may not just be annoying.
Going through a few simple steps and keeping in mind how
a toilet works is the first things in the process, and
taking off the tanks lid need to be done promptly.
When you trip the handle on the tank to flush a toilet, a
trip lever is raised inside the tank. This lever lifts a
chain, which in turn, raises the tank rubber flapper at the
bottom of the tank, releasing water. Water rushes into the
bowl below. This raises the level of water in the bowl above
the level of water in the toilet trap, and in turn creates
the flush.
The water from the tank pushes the bowl water out into
the drain, causing a siphoning action this action pulls all
matter into the mouth of the toilet and down the drain. Air
then forces the water down the drain along with the matter,
at the same time the flapper falls back into place closing
the water opening while the ball cock
assembly floats back up due to the water level rising.
As the water level in the tank rises back to its original
level the floation device/ ball cock
assembly raises back to its original state
causing the water filling device to stop the incoming water.
If the water fails to shut off there is an overflow tube
that carries excess water down into the bowl to prevent the
tank from overflowing. If water flows continuously out of
the tank to the bowl and down the drain:
Step 1: Lift up on the float arm. If the water stops, you
know the problem is that the floation device doesn’t rise
far enough to lower the valve plunger in the flapper
assembly. One reason could be that the device is rubbing
against the side of the tank. If this is the case, bend the
float arm slightly to move the flapper away from the tank
side.
Step 2: If the ball doesn’t touch the tank, continue to
hold the float arm and remove the ball from the end of the
arm by turning it counterclockwise. Then shake the ball to
see if there’s water inside it, as the weight of the water
inside could be preventing the ball from rising normally. If
there is water in the ball, shake it out and put the ball
back on the float arm. If the ball is damaged or corroded,
replace it with a new one. If there is no water in the ball,
put the ball back on and gently bend the float rod down to
lower the level the float ball must reach to shut off the
flow of fresh water into the tank.
Step 3: If you cannot solve this problem from the steps
above check the flapper itself, it may be time to change
this, or it may not be sitting properly. Seeping maybe
ocurring into the bowl from the flapper causing the noise
and the water meter with the floation device to activate.
Turn off the water at the angle stop in the wall and flush
the toilet to remove all the water. From this you can take a
observe the flapper and check for signs of damage or decay
on it and install a new flapper if need or reseat it. If the
problem is chemcial build up from such as hard water simply
clean the area.
Step 4: If water is excessively entering the tank try
moving the connection to the chain on the flapper and the
floation device up to help with the water level. Make sure
the guide is in place so that the wire is directly above the
flush valve opening. Rotate the guide until the flapper
falls straight down into the water opening. If the chain is
erroded then replace it with a new one. Make sure the chain
is not falling into the flapper or the water opening or
catching on anything else.
Solving common toilet problems.
There are just a few major components to check on a
toilet to solve any of its
issues in summary. Parts that may give you trouble are, the
seat & lid, water measuring device, flexible connection from
the angle stop to water measuring device, rubber flapper
with chain, and floation device. Checking all these
components and knowing their functions will help you solve
any toilet related issues. If you need help with these

Sewer repair informational session
Acqua
Plumbing
Drain
Cleaning, Leak Detection Service, Sewer Repair & Plumbing
in Seattle-Tacoma,
Today we are sharing with you today a
great informational sewer repair video brought to you now by
ABC and angie's list. The video describes how many sewer
repairs are costly and an average cost range of
$3000-$20,000. The owner of angie's list speaks on the
differences in sewer repairs from the traditional open
trench repairs and the newer trenchless sewer repairs. Acqua
Plumbing is happy to hear many of you out there have the
knowledge of these two different types of repairs.
Angie's list owner speaks on these repairs
and there cost but what some may think and some contractors
may tell you is that the trenchless sewer repairs are most
costly and this is a misconception in regards to Acqua
Plumbing and our pricing. Our trenchless perma-liner system
is a cheaper route of repair then the traditional open
trench, and it is as it should be. Trenchless sewer lining
is not always an option as you may think, many cities
especially in western Washington want a sewer inspection
done, recorded and then first viewed to see if a sewer liner
is a possibility. Trenchless sewer lining is a very
difficult process and you must have a certified perma-liner
system installer for these types of repairs.
When your plumbing
& Sewer is the issue,
Call Acqua 253-353-4602
This video also speaks on sewer
inspections, and why you should get one on your system.
Sewer inspections are very inexpensive cost wise, and if you
have repeating clogs you may have a sewer line issue and
should have an inspection done. Acqua Plumbing offers
$149.00+TAX Drain cleaning special with a
FREE Sewer inspection
( A $99 value).
These sewer inspections are a first
call to action when it comes to identifying a sewer issue,
and is a must if you are buying or selling a home. With a
recording and viewing of your sewer system there is no what
if or butts about the issue with your clogged or broken
sewer lines, everything is visible and ready to be
identified.

Drain
Cleaning, Leak Detection Service, Sewer Repair & Plumbing
in Seattle-Tacoma,
Ignoring your Drains
Old pipes that just sit with sediment, debris, grease
over time that build up gets to be so terrible there may
even be no way for the water to travel down the drain. Just
simply ignoring the long standing issue does you no good.
Eventually the pipes will cause a break at the joints
(This is where most of the breaks occur) and water
will start to drain into your walls, outside your home, into
your yard, or even into your home causing countless dollars
in damages to your home and personal items.
Here are some items that occur when ignoring your drains,
and cleaning them:
• Sediment, grease, and debris building up in your drain
pipes
• Clogged or blocked pipes will cause leaks, and break at
the joints
• Erosion to the bottom of the pipes causing leakage into
your home.
• Countless amount of damages to your home from leakage
of pipes
• Horrific odors in section of your home from the build
up
• Pathogens, bacteria, virus, molds now have a suitable
environment to grow
• Major plumbing work later cost you thousands of dollars
in repair cost.
If your plumbing system is aging then regulatory drain
cleaning is a must and we recommend you locate a suitable
plumber such as Acqua Plumbing to perform these for you at
least once a year for a low cost maintenance package. The
final solution to this issue would be to replace all of your
old piping with newer ABS or PVC. These new materials have a
longer shelf life and are spiraled on the inside like a gun
as so the material can shoot down the line.

in Seattle-Tacoma,
We all may not like or like to deal with plumbing issues
in your home or place of business, but simply some plumbing
issues are unavoidable. Many other plumbing related
emergency issues are as a result of operator error or
installer error. To help avoid a many types of plumbing
emergency check out our tricks and tips page for useful
suggestions in your home. Acqua Plumbing is all about
educating our customers and we would like you to know its
important to be aware of how to properly use and maintain
the all the components of your fixtures, and the operational
process of your plumbing system. Acqua Plumbing would like
to take a brief moment to inform you about many simply
mistakes involving your plumbing fixtures and system. Take a
look below and find out several incidences where a small
plumbing issue becomes a big problem.
Placing almost anything down the Garbage Disposal

Your kitchen garbage disposal is equipped to handle a
variety of food waste though it is not necessarily intended
to dispose of entire meals. Items that get caught in the
blades, and items you know shouldn't go into the plumbing
system as the name "GARABAGE" doesn't mean that just
anything goes into it. Items such as potatoes, bones, coins,
etc. The best solution to get rid of the nasty odor that can
somtimes be admitted from the disposal is put three
tablespoons of Baking sode down the disposal. This helps get
rid of the smell and is save for your plumbing system. Keep
in mind only small amounts of food wastes should be disposed
of in the garabage disposal, this will help keep the item in
great condition for years to come!
Faucet Handle Too tight

If your faucet has a continuous drip, and is losing you
money in water bills and lets see an example if your faucet
is dripping 10 times a minute in 24 hours it will fill a
bucket. Not only is that a huge waste of water, money but
the drip will get progressively worse. Over-tightening of
your faucet handle can strip, break, or crack the handle,
potentially can cause your fixture to break completely. One
means to stop the drip would be to shut off the angle stop
until the fixture is needed to be used. This should stop the
leak, but can be a pain in the neck if you have to do this
every time you need to use the faucet. Best solution overall
would be to call the educated plumbers at Acqua Plumbing. We
are here to help and one of our reps may even be able to
diagnose your problem over the phone!!!
Flushing Household Items down the Toilet

A Toilet ever since its creation was designed and made
for dispose of solid human wastes, and liquids. Small
children may from time to time try and drop items such as
toys, vegtables, or electronics down the toilet. As you may
well know these items can sometimes be too large and you may
simply just use your hands to take them out, but the smaller
items that go down the throat of the toilet can cause a
massive blockage. This blockage if it is an item such as a
toy needs to be removed, by removing the toilet itself is
the only means of removing the item safely as so it doesn't
travel down your plumbing systems line.
If you are experiencing issues with your plumbing system
or fixtures do not hesitate to call Acqua Plumbing.
Our plumbers offer a full range of emergency plumbing
services, including sewer line repairs, water heater repairs,
water leaks, pump failures, and more. To make a plumbing

Plumbing Seattle - Tacoma
June 13, 2013
Plumbing Seattle - Tacoma
Plumbing Seattle - Tacoma
Know your plumbing company and the information you are
receiving.

Knowing your plumbing contractor and the information you read
from there blog can be pivotal to choosing the right contractor. Many of our
competitors out there, alot of the big companies say they are the best, they
don't deliver unskilled, unlicensed, plumbers and technicians to your home, but
what you may not know or understand is the people writing these blogs, telling
you this information is not the company at all. They have marketing companies,
or outsourced companies delivering these messages to you saying, that others
deliver makeshift work, etc. But how would these marketing companies know?
Are they licensed plumbers, apprentices, or sewer
contractors? Most likely they are not, they are just simple marketing companies
trying to deliver the best message they can and sugar coat the company they are
delivering the message for. This is why we set ourselves apart. At Acqua
plumbing all of the content you see online, on our blog, facebook, everywhere is
done by Anthony, Fred, Nick, John, Michael, every plumber, apprentice, and
technician here and posted by me Anthony a licensed apprentice plumber and son
of the owner.
As we state we are a family owned and operated company no
content is delivered to you by a marketing company, or someone trying to
**brand** and sugar coat us. These Plumbers you see here with the owner and more
all have an impact on the content we deliver to you the customer. This is why we
post all of our videos, work examples, etc to you to share each and every
experience with you our customer. We do not try and deliver to you some
**Ideal** of the company we are. We have a perfect customer satisfaction, and a
great BBB rating for a reason. Every item that has the Acqua Plumbing name on it
is delivered by a member of our family or company.
All of this sets us apart from the other big name companies.
Having an actual apprentice plumber, or plumber writing the blogs, deliver great
DIY information cannot be measured by a marketing company doing **Research** on
plumbing or plumbing work performed. Our information and way of thinking is
being delivered to our customers online.
All of the work, an information you are given and we share on
the plumbing & Sewer systems in the Seattle-Tacoma metro area is what is actual
happening in real-time and what we are seeing. We are the ones in the field
performing your sewer repair, then posting our work photos online. Acqua
Plumbing runs on this basis that everything we do is in-house, from our training
of our technicians, to the blog we post online, to the photos on facebook, the
person digging in the ditch and installing your sewer piping. When it comes to a
thoroughbred Plumbing and Sewer company in the Seattle-Tacoma area you want one
that is run by the same people all the way around, that way everyone is informed
on your job or project.
Thank you for taking the time to share our message with us
today. Acqua Plumbing is always here to give 100% customer satisfaction as our
guarantee states. Today we have expressed our concerns about other so-called
plumbing companies here in the Seattle-Tacoma area and their message, and how a
vast majority of them do not have certified Plumbers and Plumbing apprentice
writing there blogs, or web page content, unlike us here at Acqua Plumbing.
Family basis is what we run on and if you can't trust you are getting the best
information on every level from the plumbing company, how can you trust them to
begin with?
We will be here to help with any of your plumbing and sewer
issues you
may have, and we have fixed and repaired many of the makeshift plumbing and
sewer work as shown here- (We will not give you a makeshift sewer connection
with a coffee can as the picture shows another company has installed before
Acqua Plumbing was on-site)
Acqua Plumbing is only here to deliver plumbing & Sewer
excellence, and informing the customer every step of the way. This means before
you even choose Acqua Plumbing, by reading our articles, blogs, or facebook
posts, checking out photos of our work that we perform. Making a sound chose in
Acqua Plumbing, then when we arrive we deliver to you our customer plumbing and
sewer excellence that can not be measure or compared to others.
Let's take a look at another photo of makeshift work:
Obviously this is not a proper connection.
Acqua Plumbing will go over various option you have to get the
project or plumbing and sewer issue solved in the most cost-efficient way. We
give our customer various options as just like a puzzle there maybe may
different ways of getting it solved and it is just another way we inform our
customer on the issues they are having and how we get you involved every step of
the way.
Then
even after all the work is complete we deliver to you photos via email (or your
preferred method), and post our exceptional on our facebook, and our website!!
( If you prefer us not too that is also an option).
The photos we post and write about is first discuss with our plumber and then
posted by a member of
Acqua Plumbing, who is either a certified Plumbing Apprentice
or Plumber him or herself!! Every step of the way you have an in-house
professional on the job!! Remember Acqua Plumbing is the smart choose.

Plumbing Fixtures | Low-Flow toilets- All Hype

Plumbing Fixtures | Low-Flow toilets- All Hype
Plumbing Fixtures | Low-Flow toilets- All Hype
Plumbing Seattle-Tacoma
Don't believe all the Hype and Comments on the Low-Flow toilets. The other
competitors out there may try and make you think low flow is the best, but not
Acqua Plumbing. Don't believe us? Take a look at this article here by
theplumber.com. This is coming for a great and knowledgeable source. IF you have
a low flow toilet better make sure you own a PLUNGER!!!
Take a Great look here
http://www.theplumber.com/fhb.html

Take a look at the designs for the new low flush toilets. To
the untrained eye they look just a bit smaller then the older, more gallons per
minute model. The drain on the bowl must be of an adequate size otherwise the
fecal matter will cause a clog in the toilet itself. The new low flow models are
great for saving water, IF the drain inside the toilet (Or the Throat or outlet
as we may call if) needs to be of a large enough diameter to adequately siphon
the water, and matter out.
We have here some basics to try before calling a plumber
brought to you by TOTO.USA
http://www.totousa.com/Support/ProductFAQ/Determinewhytoiletisnotflushing.aspx
Our diagram of the toilet shows how the toilet works. The
designs of the old and the new are initially the same concept, with a few
differences being the sizes of the tank, and drain outlet. With all of the new
low-flush toilets a plunger is necessary., but if you find the right models such
as some models offered but TOTO, Kohler, and American Standard. These brands and
the specific models will deliver the same water conversation with the exception
of a great siphon as well.
Hype or not don't let the masses fool you into thinking all
toilets are built alike. Just like us (people) the types and models do not
deliver the same outcome. Unless you had made good friends with your plunger,
please research the toilet you are having installed, or purchasing if you are
getting a low flow check the model type and specifications and do not believe
all the hype. Call us for help with you toilet installations and toilet clogs.

Sewer/Drain Pipe Lining Seattle
- § Pipelining Seattle-Tacoma, Broken Sewer Pipe Tacoma-Seattle, Drain Pipe Lining, Sewer Pipe Re-lining, Trenchless Sewer Pipe Lining, Trenchless Sewer Repairs, Acqua Plumbing 253-353-4602 for all your needs
Drain & Sewer Pipe Lining Seattle. Is your sewer line broken, eroded, or have Tree & plants roots over taken your Sewer pipe in Seattle? Do you have to pay contractor after contractor for Hydro jetting, and cleaning more than a handful of times a year? If you have answered yes to any of these questions you should consider going a more permanent long term solution. Yes it may initially cost more to do a long term repair but its a long term repair unlike the hydro jetting which essentially in the long term is much more expensive every time you have the contractor perform a service.
The Tree & Plant roots, as well as the corrosion/erosion over time and the aging system you think you have actually is not a sewer system at all anymore. Let's take a look at the tree roots for starters. Tree & Plant roots can grow to great distances and in size. The entire plant roots can take over you old concrete, Orangeburg, or clay sewer system. These can deteriorate and destroy your sewer system in the Seattle-Tacoma area.
.jpg)
This is what root intrusions can do to your aging sewer line.
Seattle has become well informed on the sewer/drain pipe lining process, and all of its benefits. Sewer pipe re-lining is quickly becoming Seattle's preferred method of sewer pipe line repair, and sewer pipe rehabilitation. Sewer pipe lining process does not involve the destruction or your yard or landscaping as traditional sewer repair methods do. If you live in the Tacoma-Seattle area and are facing slow drainage, roots in your sewer/drain lines, or you simply have already had your sewer line video inspected and know your sewer line is broken, please call Acqua Plumbing your certified Perma-Liner Trenchless Sewer Repair, Sewer pipe lining, C.I.P.P (cured in place pipelining).

We are here to rehabilitate your aging Orangeburg, Cast-Iron, PVC, Clay or concrete sewer system. We are happy to travel to your place of business or home for a complete and detailed site evaluation, and go over possibilities and project ideas for your sewer pipe lining. We have the latest technology in sewer pipe lining that can even line your sewer/drain pipe from inside your home. The process is very quick, sturdy, and durable with little to no invasive steps, and the process only takes a few hours.

Side sewers Seattle-Tacoma
April 29, 2013
| Common problems with your sewer |
Seattle-Tacoma side sewer problems and info
Thanks for viewing again one of our many posts here. Let's start as to what makes a private side sewer? Now most people believe that the sewer is in the street which is true, but most are not sure or do not know that that is the cities property and also called the sewer main or main sewer. Now each home has a branch line called a side sewer which connects your home to the main sewer. This part of the sewer which runs through your property is called the side sewer. The responsibility to maintain the side sewer is the property owner is which it receives use. The City's responsibility is the maintenance of the sewer main, including the tees, wyes, and risers at the main.
Original side sewers for your private property for most homes built before the 90's or 80's are made of orangeburge (a paper like material with an orange color), clay, cast iron, or concrete. This older less efficient material is a hazard and will eventually give out. These types of materials are can crack, shift out of place, and/or be subject to root intrusions, or body and other wastes erosion's. These common problems along with plants, trees, etc can result in blockages, leaks, foul odors, and potential flooding.

(Root Intrusion over several years in an old concrete line)
Clogs and leaks are not the only common problems that occur with the old sewer lines. In addition most side sewers lack a sewer clean-out or lack the right kind or clean-out. Clean-outs provide the proper access for clearing blockages, clogs, and also a better, cleaner, and easier access to video scope/ inspect the sewer line. A clean-out is a pipe that extends vertically from the side sewer to ground level or close to the surface. Clean-outs are most uncommon it homes built in the 80's. Clean-outs are an essential part of the sewer system and are current plumbing code, and must be installed or present on any main side sewer line repair or replacement.
Check out one of our sewer inspections here:

- "Should I have my sewer line inspected and by who?"
Now that we have established the most common problems of the sewer we can ask another question, "Should I have my sewer line inspected and by who?" Well your answer may vary, and the reason why maybe some of items we have already discussed. If your side sewer pipe fails and a sewer clog is caused, sewage from your private property to back up in your drain pipes. This may possibly end up to the surface and escaping into your property starting from the closes fixture (Toilet, sinks, bathtubs) or floor drain that is near the sewer lines entry to the property flooding the place. The raw sewage entering the property can cause major health issue, major damage to your property, and a potentially expensive mess.
This kind of problem can be avoid with a simple sewer video inspection by your trusted smart plumber before they cause serious problems such as these. A $149.99 Drain Cleaning with a FREE Sewer Inspection is a lot cheaper than a hazardous sewage flood and clean up later. This gives you and idea of where you are at in the sewer repair process, especially if you are on the home or business owners that has a building built around the 80's or earlier. The city whether it be Seattle, Tacoma, Federal Way, or Burien recommends that the property owner investigates their property and condition taking into consideration the age of their sewer line. If the sewer line is more than 30 years old it does not have PVC pipe running from the building to the City sewer main connection. The answer to the previously asked question " Should I have my sewer inspected?" would be yes, recommended by both the City and Acqua Plumbing. If you have experienced flooding sewage into the property then the inspection is a little far gone and a repair should be made right away.
- " What is the cost of sewer line repairs or replacements?"
This brings us to our next point and probably the most important question " What is the cost of sewer line repairs or replacements?" The answer to this is simple but maybe hard to take in, the answer is yes they can be, especially if you do not choose the right contractor. Not just any contractor can perform a sewer repair and most will not tell you this. This requires a separate Bond, and sewer specialist license, in addition if you were to go the route of trenchless technology (Check out trenchless in the link we provided) this requires yet another separate license. You want to make sure you have the best, experienced, and educated sewer contractor with your repair, you can simply ask to see their license, and they should be visible as Acqua Plumbings' is here! On average sewer repair cost range from $950 for a simple clean-out installation to a complete sewer line replacement costing $15,000 and more. The cost entitles many different factors and variables depending on each individuals situation.
- " When am I required to repair or replace my sewer line"
This answer is fairly simple, once sewage is clogged to the point that there is no flow at all, sewage is flooding into the building, yard or exiting the plumbing system by other means, this is considered a public health hazard called Sanitary Sewer Overflow. Sanitary Sewer Overflow is illegal and can be subject to fines, penalties, and even red tagged ( Building being condemned for no access/ unlivable). When this occurs the city will notify you the property owner and will have a set amount of time for the property owner to make repairs to the sewer system and reduce the health hazard. If the repairs are not met in the amount of time given additional fines, or even water shut-off by the local health department may occur. In consideration to all of this there are many signs that the sewer system will give off before such a situation happens. If you start to notice debris around your bathtub or shower drain, foul smells from the drains in your home, bathtub or shower possibly draining slowly, even a area in the yard that smells foul and has a dampness to it when the weather is dry.

Description of problem: I don't have a problem. I just want to tell you what abaolutely fantastic great service I got from Michael & Anthony on Thursday 1/24. I had them scope the sewer on a house I was buying and they could not have been more helpful, or professional, or smart, or nice. They were going to come back the next day and 'flush' the lines and the flusher was not working. Even when I was 'cranky' about their flusher machine problem they were polite and so pleasant to deal with. I would give Acqua Plumbing a 10 star rating. I'm sure my real estae agent will be recommending them also.
In addition to resolving any existing plumbing system problems, a highly experienced plumbing Seattle service provider also has the trained eye to locate even the smallest problems that have the potential of becoming more serious if overlooked. 7 Things you Should not put down your Drain. Seattle-Tacoma area
August 25, 2012
7 Things you should not
put down your drain.
What most of the community does not realize is that some of the most serious of drain and sewer clogs that are caused in the home are from the homeowners or renters themselves. There has been a study in 2002 by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) collected and analyzed water samples from roughly 139 streams in 30 different states. The purpose of this study was to measure the concentrations of 95 wastewater organic checmicals in the water. What to take a guess at what they found?
They found that one or more of these chemicals were found in 80% of the streams sampled. About 1/3 of the streams contained 10+ of these chemicals, and over 1/2 of the streams contained 7+ of these chemicals. Its kind of a hard thing to realize that everything you put down the drain goes back to the streams and waters of our world. This is why it is so important to know what you are putting down your drain can and will not only cause a major clog in your drain but harm the environment as well. Let's start here with a 7 of the things you should not put down the drain.
- Oils- Now oils doesn't just stop at cooking oils such as corn or vegetables. Oils goes along with motor oils, lawnmower oils. Most of these oils and thick liquids are slow-moving and can harden inside your drain and sewer lines. This is more than enough to eventually catch other materials in your drain and cause a minor or even major clog, that even can back-up into your home.

- Fats & Foods- Much of the kitchen material that is put down the sink is fats. Fats such as meat fats, the trimmings off the beef or chicken. Eggshells, chunks of foods, string like foods such as pasta or garbage, and a garbage disposal is not meant to eat at the foods but make them smaller pieces. Then other fats such as Lard, all of these things will clog up and act as grease inside our sewer and drain lines, and can catch the oils and other such things and leave nasty odors behind. These are harmful not to just your drain but especially inside septic systems.
- Objects- Small and big alike, children and even adults are capable of intentionally or by accident may drop or put a small or big item down their drain, toilet or sink. Acqua Plumbing ourselves have seen rings, earrings, phones, potatoes, toys and much much more down drains, toilets, and sewer lines. We offer Video inspection to help in the possible retrieval of these items. You can just image a toy going down you toilet an causing a clog in your toilet, but what if it passes down into you main line. Then can catch the fats, oils, and toilet paper and causing a massive home backup.

- Pharmaceutical- These are meant for the human body and that only. When other put there remaining pills, and such down the drain they then dissolve into the water and is very hard for the waster water department to exact. These are harm to the environment and if they don't dissolve then they too can catch on the objects, fats, and oils that make in down your drain. These are especially harm to septic tanks and systems.
.jpg)
- Hazardous Chemicals- Hazardous chemicals are item.that are how they sound. The motor oils, cat litter, transmission fluids, anti-freeze, paints, and not only this but corrosive substances. These can eat away at your drain and sewer lines causing cracks or leaks. They are not meant to be put down the drain and the piping materials are not meant to handle anti-freezes, and corrosive substances.
.jpg)
- Dairy Products- Dairy products are an accumelative of the Fats, foods, and oils. Products like ice creams, milk, and yogurts. These can catch on a smaller clog and will age. Have you ever seen expired milk? This can happen in a clog and just make the mess bigger.
.jpg)
- Personal Care Products- These can nail polishes, tampons, pads, condoms. These are solvents, objects, and things that just don't break down in you sewer system, and are not meant for the drain, but for the trash can. Tampons, pads, and even condoms can help cause a back up into your home.
It is horrible when products and items that can be dealt with elsewhere than the toilet and cost so little, can cause a break or backup in your sewer and drain lines that may even cost hundreds to fix. Make sure you know what is going down your drain and not just for the environment, or the future of our little ones, but for your wallet as well.
Image brought to you by others.
Yes, and sewer back up such as this can happen to you. This image indeed shows you real sewage inside someones bathtub. This is a very real and very nasty and horrible thought but it can easily happen to you. Taken care of your home, sewer, drain lines, and plumbing is so important. Don't let this kind of situation happen to you.
We offer many emergency 24 hour services to help with all your drain clog problems any hour of the day or night everyday!

Your Sewer line and your traps
Your fixture traps are an essential part if not maybe the most important part of your sewer system. Your sewer does not just begin outside your home by includes the drains in your home that extend/ connect to sewer line system. The traps in your drain holds all the vermin and sewer gases inside the drain. Without proper venting and trap seal the health of your family is a concern. The methane gases or small vermin may enter in your system through the trap, broken pipes, and so on if your system is not in working order. There different ways if needed to vent your plumbing system, such as wet venting.
Vertical wet venting is the grouping of the trap arms from a plumbing fixture on one vertical line will serve as a vent for all the trap arms as well as serving as a drain for some. Trap arms connecting to a wet vent section are limited to a fixture with one and two drainage fixture unit ratings. With this type of venting there SHOULD BE NO LOSS OF TRAPS SEAL FROM BACK PRESSURE OR SIPHONAGE.
Every part of your sewer system, plumbing system, and drainage system should be in proper working order, and as there are many parts to the system finding out problems to your system is hard for the un-trained EYE. Acqua Plumbing the Smart Plumber of Washington is here to inform you just as we have on wet venting, and other sewer repair needs, plumbing repair problems. This would keep those nasty gases from harming your family. What most Ppl Don't know is that The plumber is a profession that is to protect the help keep the health and welfare of the family through the proper drainage and keeping nasty gases and vermin from entering your home.

Where does it go? Is it ok to Flush?
July 27, 2012
Do you ever wonder what happens to items that get flushed down your drain? The line does not end with just the toilet, not even the drain. All the items everyone flushes must go somewhere, but where? Everything that is flushed down the drains is conveyed with the waste water, such things as baby wipes, ear swabs, etc. All these things and more drain down to the local treatment facility, before being safely distributed into the environment. Your toilet is not a dumpster, everything cannot be just sent down the toilet.
These items should never be flushed down the toilet, nor should be near a toilet.
- Combustible solvents & Chemicals
- Drugs/ Pharmaceutical
- Tampons and other lady products
- FOGS (Fats, Oils, Greases)
- Antifreeze and other dangerous Chemicals
- Needles, razors, shampoos
- Diaper Wipes
- Poisons and Pesticides
These items should be avoided in your sewer and garbage disposal:
- Large substances that may clog your drain lines/branch lines
- Large amounts of food

A shining example of what grease can do to your old aging pipe system.
You may think food is safe in your garbage disposal because of the word garbage, but actually your garbage disposal should have relatively no food in it at all. A garbage disposal is a big misconception, people put food down there drain everyday and larger amounts all the time. This food does not always make it down the drain. Your drain will slowly begin to clog, with every little bit of food you put down that drain. You may not notice your slow drain clog, you will just see your drain slowing, a little bit everyday. Food will get caught up in your drain lines, needing attention. Luckily Acqua Plumbing is here to help with low cost to you. For just a simple drain clog in your kitchen we charge only $99+TAX. Other company may charge you an arm and a leg for just a simple kitchen drain clog.
NOT JUST WHAT YOU PUT DOWN THE DRAIN, BUT WHAT MAY BE TRYING TO ENTER YOUR DRAIN.
We have just talked about what you put down the drain, but what about the things that try to enter your drain?
Do you ever think that you lovely bushes that you trim everyday might slowly be clogging your drain? The fact is that many unseen clogs in you drains, from all areas in Seattle-Tacoma and around the world, can be caused by the roots of your everyday plants. These plant may have been there before your home or you have even been there. Roots from large trees to smaller plants you will never see. There is no difference to them from sewer water to fresh water. Plants roots will attack your system to get the water the source of life no matter what if it is the closes source. Roots will cause backups. The roots will catch anything from toilet paper to tampons and so on. Eventually there will be a huge what we call mush pack inside the sewer lines with little to no room for water and toilet paper to travel down the line to the treatment facility. Take a look here how roots can be in your sewer lines.

This is not a rare occurrence. This is a very common problem that happens to your sewer line an these will vary at times but they can be this bad. Lets take a look here as well

Common? Yes. Acqua Plumbing is the Affordable solution to these problems with preventative routine maintenance services available, which includes home and sewer inspections, hydro jetting, and much much more. Call us for all your service needs and thanks for visiting us here at Acqua Plumbing. "From the Faucet to the Street our Knowledge Can't Be Beat!"
